It was Albert Einstein who proved that when we break matter down into smaller components, we move beyond the material realm and into a realm in which everything is energy. This is the Law of Vibration, a law of nature that states that ‘nothing rests; everything moves; every-thing vibrates.’
Everything in our universe has a unique vibration or frequency, including us and they vary depending on our emotions, health & feeling etc. From the single cell organism, to groups of cells we know as our bodily organs and through to the human organism as a whole, all of these have a frequency unique to them. The healthier the vibration, the healthier the cell or organism. Every type of sound you can imagine, from an angry voice to a drill, a fog horn to a purring cat and simple soothing tones have an effect on our nervous system which has a knock on effect on every cell in the body, either creating relaxation or stress. In response to the stressful sounds, cells recoil and hold onto their toxicity and become what we know as ‘dis-eased’. In response to being fed soothing tones they let go of their toxicity and naturally begin to function normally again. This is why well-being and physical health are so inextricably linked to sound. The simplest way of communicating with cells is through sound vibration for which there are various methods & tools such as the Tibetan / Crystal bowls, Tuning Forks, Music Therapy, Chanting, Toning & many more.
You are more familiar with the power of sound than you might realise – For example, when an opera singer vibrates a glass with her voice the singer has matched her voice to the resonant frequency of the glass and set it into vibration. As the singer increases the volume of her sound the resonance becomes too great for the forces that hold the glass together and it shatters. Luckily, our bodies are more flexible than a glass! The cells of our body enjoy the vibration of sound.
And of course, modern medicine now offers the option of applying sound waves to break up kidney and gallstones (as well as being used in many other areas of medicine) in the body with a machine known as a Lithotripter. This machine bombards the stones with a specific sound frequency for one to two hours. The patient is usually admitted in the morning and discharged in the evening & generally no anaesthetic is needed. The pulverised stone is passed out of the body through the urine and therefore eliminating the need for drugs or surgery which is always a plus.
Perhaps one of the more familiar & exciting forms of using sound waves is to check in on your unborn baby! Ultrasound pictures are made from sound waves which are too high pitched to be heard by the human ear. The sound waves travel through your skin and are focused on a certain part of your body by a scanning device called a “transducer.” It picks up the sound waves as they bounce back from organs inside the body.
Although the vibrational energy of the bowl can be directed to specific areas for healing purposes, they work more on a fundamental level. When the tibetan singing bowls are used within meditations and physical vibrational healing techniques their harmonic resonance stimulates the brain & bodies cells to make positive changes that help heal & aid with the following (it is worth noting that whilst these incredible sound tools can be used to treat virtually any condition, in adults & children, they can be used equally as well to maintain well being & aid deep relaxation) ;
“The body is held together by sound. The presence of disease indicates that some sounds have gone out of tune” ~ Deepak Chopra
Although these sacred instruments possess a variety of harmonics, the fundamental vibration of each bowl is rooted in the Sanskrit mantra OM…This primordial sound is the perfection of the universe.
